Obituary
Reginald William Douglas Price passed away peacefully on May 10th at Berwick Royal Oak, mere days ahead of his 101st birthday.
Reg was a distinguished veteran wartime pilot with both the RCAF and RAF from the early 1940s until the early 1960s at which time he began his next career as a corporate pilot flying business jets out of Montreal and Calgary. Reg flew Lancasters as captain on 31 wildly dangerous missions into the battlefields of Germany and France until 1944. He was awarded eight medals for his military service, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Canadian War Medal, Canadian Peace Keeping Medal and the French Legion D’Honour for his participation in the liberation of France.
The world of aviation defined and thrilled him to the very end, so much so that he never mentioned having to ‘go to work’ when it involved flying. In recent years, his connection to aviation extended to a number of local groups of retired pilots and aviation enthusiasts.
Reg is survived by his son Dudley, daughter Sharon (David) Layzell and grandson Chris (Cindy) Layzell. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie, in 2013, and granddaughter, Carey Layzell, in 1995.
At Reg's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
