William Raymond Bates. Regular Rear Gunner of Lancaster CF-N. LM103 but Rear Gunner and Mid-Upper Gunner of other Lancasters in the Squadron on occasion. Aircraft CF-N took of from R.A.F. Kelstern on the night of 12th September, 1944 on a raid to Frankfurt. Aircraft did not return. William was stood down from this mission by the Station M.O. because of an ear infection. Another gunner went in his place. Unconfirmed, but this was possibly F/L Webber who was the SQN Gunnery Leader at the time.
