Remembrance Events

The purpose of the webpage is to provide information about events that are being held to remember the air crews lost on specfic sorties.

Mailly-le-Camp Sortie - May 3/4, 1944

On May 3, 2026, the town of Mailly-le-Camp in the North Central region of France are planning a commemorative event dedicated to the Allied bombing of the German military camp in Mailly-le-Camp during the night of 3–4 May 1944.

They are really keen to engage with the families of the men who flew on the operation from any of the following squadrons:

• 9, 12, 44, 50, 57, 83, 97, 101, 103, 166, 207, 460, 463, 467, 550, 576, 619, 625, 626, 169 or 192.

All except for the last two squadrons were part of 1 and 5 Group.  The last two were part of 100 group.

A total of 261 men lost their lives that day, 18 were taken PoW, 33 evaded and only 6 returned unscathed.

On this sortie, 625 Squadron lost the following Lancasters:

• LM317

• LM515

• ME697

The Squadron was impacted as follows:

• 1 Evader

• 1 POW

• 19 KIA
