Douetil was shot down on February 19, 1944 whilst on Ops to Leipzig.  He survived due to his plane turning upside down where he fell though the canopy.  He never really recovered from losing his crew.  After the war he became a Lloyds underwriter,and met numerous German business men who had flown with the Luftwaffe.
