From Guelph, Ontario. Killed in Action Dec 16/43 age 29. #625 Squadron (We Avenge). Lancaster aircraft #LM 424 was shot down at Wetscherwiesen, Germany during a night trip to Berlin, Germany. P/Os G.E. Adams (RAF), D. Baker (RAF), G.W.F. Batchelor (RAF), Sgts C. Robinson (RAF), and K. Watmough (RAF) were also killed. One other member of the crew, not Canadian, was taken Prisoner of War. Flight Lieutenant Wireless Operator Air Gunner Crimmins was buried at Wetscherwiesen, exhumed, and reburied in the Limmer British Cemetery at Hanover, Germany. Addendum: – Distinguished Flying Cross No.12 Squadron – Award effective 12 April 1943 as per London Gazette dated 20 April 1943 and AFRO 985/43 dated 28 May 1941 Home in Guelph, Ontario; enlisted Hamilton, 2 July 1940. Trained at No.1 ITS (graduated 14 September 1940), No.1 BGS (graduated 17 February 1941), and No.1 WS (graduated 19 January 1941). Invested with award by the King, 9 November 1943. The citation reads – “Pilot Officer Crimmins is a most gallant gunner whose cheerful confidence throughout his tour of operational duty has inspired a high standard of morale and courage in his crew.
